Purpose of job

To assist the department in the provision of advice to the firm’s clients.

Responsibilities

Specific duties:                         

The role of the paralegal is to work alongside the fee-earners in the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Team with respect to any aspect of their caseload with which assistance is needed. This may include both large, complex cases as well as smaller cases. The paralegal is expected to be able to produce typewritten documents without the need for secretarial support.

Responsibilities will include:  

  • Matter set up to include opening the file on Mattersphere, generating and assembling the physical file, conflict checks, triage and setting up the first appointment.  If applying for Legal Aid, dealing with the generic parts of the application
  • Taking new client enquiries and completing the CNPI Triage Forms
  • Presenting new client enquiries to the new client enquiry partner
  • Obtaining medical records, logging them as they are received, and dealing with Medbrief
  • Identifying preliminary list of liability and C&P experts
  • Chasing expert reports
  • Pre-action conference – organisation and preparation
  • Quantum – research on general damages (Lawtel etc)
  • Dealing with arrangements for round table meetings
  • Case conference preparation: Experts, Counsel etc
  • Using the Taskflow to generate and send out correspondence, and where appropriate drafting routine correspondence
  • Preparing Schedules of special damage expenses, and collating/filing special damage receipts
  • Preparing core bundles for hearings
  • Preparing detailed attendance notes for all tasks undertaken
  • Taking detailed notes at departmental meetings and occasionally at new client meetings
  • Assisting generally with case administration and document management
  • Participating in marketing events.
