The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our finance team are committed to providing an efficient and accurate service to our legal advisors and to other support functions.  At the centre of this is ensuring that the client and office accounts are kept up to date and invoices are produced accurately and in a timely manner.

The role

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a credit control administrator to join our finance team. This role is a maternity cover, fixed term contract working 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5.30pm based in Northampton.

Main responsibilities

You will be assisting in dealing with the credit checking process on SAP; this will entail running reports via our credit report provider (Credit safe) and completion of the relevant details on SAP. Where further information is required, e-mailing the legal adviser in line with the Firm’s credit vetting procedures.

You will also be required to assist the Credit Management team with copy invoices, standard letters etc. and any other admin tasks, as requested.

Skills and qualifications

You will need a confident telephone manner as the role will require answering the phone and picking up calls for the team when they are either on a call or working on urgent reports, and also taking credit/debit card payments from clients, for which we will provide training. Training will also be provided on Microsoft packages, including Word and Outlook, although a good working knowledge of these is essential.

It is important that you demonstrate self-confidence and the ability to use your own initiative, as well as excellent communication skills. Strong time management and organisational skills are also key, as is the ability to successfully manage your own workload and work both independently and as part of a team. An enthusiastic, positive, “can do” attitude with outstanding attention to detail will help you to excel within this role.

Previous administration experience within a Credit Control role would be desirable, but is not essential as training will be provided. In addition, experience of SAP and a basic understanding of credit vetting would be an advantage to this role.
