The team

Our Recruitment Team are dedicated to finding the best talent for a variety of business areas including both legal and head office support roles.  

As part of this team, you will be creative and driven, with interpersonal savvy that allows you to develop lasting relationships with internal clients, candidates, and external suppliers helping to guide them through our hiring process and connecting them to the world of working at Shoosmiths.

The role

Reporting to the graduate recruitment manager, as an officer in the recruitment team, you're at the heart of your team's business operations and activities that keeps the firm moving forward. By anticipating the needs of your manager you’ll help them stay focused on projects by resolving operational and administrative issues before they arise. In addition to being organised and analytical, you possess the strong business judgment and communication skills needed to interact with a variety of people and job functions.

As part of our fast-paced team, you'll be finding the most talented candidates who bring an entrepreneurial spirit to their placement and training contract. You are creative and driven, and able to use your own initiative. You’ll develop strong relationships with candidates, helping to support them in their role as a trainee solicitor.

Main responsibilities
  • To provide a quality administrative support service to the recruitment team that will enable the delivery of a competitive early careers campaign.
  • Manage and schedule calendars for multiple people; coordinating team meetings/group events; processing expense reports; booking meeting rooms; taking meeting minutes, maintaining websites for the team to include information such as key contacts, schedules, teams and projects.
  • Organise logistics for a variety of events internally and off-site, such as careers fairs in universities or insight evenings.
  • Assist with ongoing budget and seat rotations.  
  • Build efficiency into existing operations and help define new operational strategies, such as recording current processes and policies.
  • Liaise with external clients in setting up meetings and organising workshops.
  • Develop and manage engaging content for the team’s digital media presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram.
  • Attend events to share knowledge about the firm and early careers programmes. 
Skills and qualifications

Skills and qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience of working in an HR, recruitment, marketing or professional services environment
  • Existing networks and/or experience in the legal profession would be advantageous

  • Ability to use initiative to make decisions in the interest of those concerned
  • Proactive in dealing with problems before they arise, and ability to think on your feet
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards in every piece of work
  • Proven experience effectively communicating and collaborating with a diverse range of people and job functions
  • Understanding of complete confidentiality on all business matters
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; organisational and time management skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge and interest in social media platforms e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram
  • An understanding of the UK higher education system
  • Self-motivated and able to prioritise own time to meet deadlines

This role will require some flexible working hours, and travel throughout the UK.
