The team

The main aim of our Learning and Development Team is to provide Shoosmiths' employees with the skills and knowledge to ensure that Shoosmiths continues on its journey to become a UK law firm most valued by its clients, people and communities.

Our L&D Team is based at the Lakes in Northampton although members of the team frequently travel to other offices to provide hands on support and ensure a quality training programme is maintained.

The role

Due to growth, we have a new role available within our Learning and Development (L&D) team for an IT Trainer to join our Northampton office on a 12 month fixed term basis. Travel to other offices will be requireed as part of this role, around 3/4 times per week.

Main Purpose of the role

  • To create/design and deliver effective IT training interventions to support a firm wide system roll out.
  • To support the Business Systems team in delivering exciting and interactive training interventions covering all aspects of Learning & Development
Main responsibilities
  • Learn, test and monitor new system updates and changes.
  • Create and design detailed training materials to support staff in the use of the firm’s business systems.
  • Design effective IT training interventions.
  • Deliver effective IT training interventions.
  • Monitor, assess and evaluate the training.
  • Produce clear reports to the Team Manager on the effectiveness of system roll outs.
  • Support colleagues in using the New System (Train the Trainer).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of L&D solutions and recommend appropriate actions where appropriate and necessary.
  • Assist in identifying future learning needs within the business.
  • Work as part of a team to develop and deliver appropriate and existing learning solutions.
Skills and qualifications
  • High level of general PC literacy – able to use Windows 7 and MS Office 2013 to intermediate/advanced level.                 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and Verbal).
  • Confident in delivering in front of an audience.
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels within the organisation.
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage your own work and meet deadlines.
  • Discreet, proactive and resourceful.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with a proactive approach to their work.
  • Proven experience within a similar role.
  • Intellectually agile and able to think conceptually and solve problems.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of latest training and development methods, processes and systems.
  • Experience of working in a complex cross-functional roles.
  • Proven Training Delivery expertise and proficiency.

Background checks

Due to the nature of the work undertaken, confirmation of employment will be subject to a variety of checks which will be carried out once an offer of employment is accepted.  These checks will include employment references covering the last 5 years, proof of ID, proof of address covering the last 5 years, Personnel Vetting credit search (which will only highlight insolvency or County Court Judgments - should any adverse data show on the Personnel Vetting search then any offer of employment made will be withdrawn).Terrorism Check (against data supplied by the Bank of England) and a DBS check previously known as a Criminal Records check.
