The team

Our Recoveries Services Practice Group is in 7 office locations:The Lakes, Birmingham, Manchester, Reading, Edinburgh, Southampton and Belfast.

We provide a complete range of debt recovery services utilising cutting edge technology, with specialists dealing with different debt types, all operating under a centralised management structure allowing us to deliver consistently excellent service.

The role

The role of Team Leader focuses on the internal management responsibilities in supervising and managing a team.

The role is likely to have some basic client responsibilities at an operational and relationship level.

The Team Leader will understand the technical elements necessary to provide a quality and comprehensive recoveries service with a client and customer centric focus. You will work to lead, manage, encourage, motivate and develop their team.

Main responsibilities
  • work with and assist your line manager as appropriate to maintain, improve, update and adapt our processes and strategies to enable Shoosmiths to fulfil its objective to be the leading recoveries operation in the UK.
  • provide day to day advice and support to your team to meet the client's SLAs
  • work with clients at an operational level to ensure services are delivered effectively and efficiently
  • manage your team(s) on a day to day basis
  • assess and undertake your team's compliance, training and supervision needs
  • undertake your team's 1-2-1s and keep the firm's records updated
  • review your team structure and environment to maximise efficiencies
  • comply with the training and competency framework for your team
  • maximise the team's abilities to provide the highest standard of work and compliance with the firm's core values
  • encourage and motivate the team to meet client and team requirements, targets and performance goals etc
  • regularly review and maximise the team's performance of the technology used eg Visual Files, Cybertech, Worldpay etc including submitting Change Control Requests where appropriate
  • review recruitment requirements and undertake the recruitment process as appropriate
  • deal with first stage disciplinary issues within the team
  • be completely familiar with all aspects of the Unit's process
  • be familiar with and build relationships with other units within RSG and the wider firm, such as Operations, IS and Finance
Skills and qualifications

You will need the following skills and experience:-

  • IT literate with experience of using Word, Excel and the internet
  • Excellent knowledge of Debt Recovery/ Credit Insurance
  • Excellent written, numeracy and oral communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise, be organised and efficient
  • Ability to manage change, new practices and cope under pressure but with the ability to recognise when to seek assistance
  • work on your own initiative with cross Unit interaction
  • Friendly and helpful approach
  • Confidence to challenge current practices and processes and influence senior management
