The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our National Commercial Group is going from strength to strength and we have exciting plans for accelerated growth over the next five years.

Our bold and ambitious plan is to be recognised as the pre-eminent Commercial Practice in the UK within the next 5 years.

We’re already well on that journey, currently having an excellent team of over 70 lawyers focused on six key service lines:

  • Technology, Media & Telecoms
  • Intellectual Property
  • Financial Services
  • Commercial Contracts
  • Privacy & Data
  • Capital Projects & Infrastructure

We are ranked in the top tier of Legal 500 for most of our practice areas, although our intention is to have top rankings across the board.

We have long been advising clients at the increasingly porous frontier between content and technology. Our specialist knowledge and extensive experience includes dealing with the full spectrum of partner and collaborative relationships in the digital world, be they 'white label' web-service arrangements, content licensing or drafting the terms of APIs to allow other digital platforms and online media providers to openly interface with services and content. It is a genuine one-stop-shop with a growing client base across the country.

The role

We are looking for an additional commercial lawyer to join us in our London office to support our growth strategy.

Our national Commercial Practice Group has presence across all of our national offices and operate as one.  We work in a supportive and agile way therefore the role would suit a legal adviser who is able to work independently as well as within a team.  The ideal candidate will share our values of providing outstanding client service and have a track record of being involved in business development initiatives.

Skills and qualifications

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in drafting and advising on various digital, web, print publishing and social media matters, as well as in relation to website terms of use and privacy policies, EULAs and App/web development, hosting, software and data licensing, API and SaaS agreements.  The team works with new technology platforms, devices as well as advertising within these channels therefore expertise and interest in consumer law, GDPR and ePrivacy regulations as well as IP would be helpful.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
