The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our national banking and finance team advises clients on a range of financing transactions across a wide variety of sectors, often with a multi-jurisdictional element. Acting for borrowers, lenders and investors means we have a practical understanding of the needs of all parties to a financing transaction. Our expertise extends to corporate lending, acquisition finance, asset finance, real estate finance (both investment and development), project finance, invoice discounting and refinancings both on a bilateral and a syndicatable basis. We work closely with some of the UK's major banks and financial institutions, and have approved panel solicitor status with many of them. We manage transactions from start to finish, ensuring a smooth and cohesive process, enabling clients to continue to focus on building their relationships and running their businesses.

Our excellent team is going from strength to strength, as showcased by the recent addition of Nick Iliff to our Birmingham team. Nick specialises in project and real estate finance, having advised a wide range of lenders, borrowers and public bodies on the financing of infrastructure, energy and mining projects, and advising on refinancing and restructuring assets covering everything from individual properties to multi-jurisdictional portfolios of assets, both in the UK and internationally. Nick is working alongside David Adams who advises some of the UK’s largest financial institutions in real estate finance, acquisition and leveraged finance and asset-based lending.

The role

Due to this continued growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Solicitor to join our team in Birmingham and work alongside David and Nick.

Working closely with the national banking team, we would expect you to be able to support and assist others in the team on a range of work including but not limited to; corporate lending, acquisition finance, project finance and real estate finance. You will have experience advising borrowers, lenders and investors on the full transaction lifecycle. You will also support our team on a local and national level.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
