The team

Shoosmiths Private Client Conveyancing Team offers a highly professional conveyancing service designed to make the process of buying or selling property as efficient and stress-free for their clients.

Shoosmiths remains the largest firm of conveyancing solicitors accredited under the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme. The conveyancing service provided by our Private Client Practice maintains the same high standards corporate clients have come to expect of Shoosmiths and is consistently commended in national consumer service awards.

The role

An exciting opportunity to job the Edinburgh office to provide support to the Solicitors within the Residential Property team.  The role requires a can-do approach and proactive thinking in order that as a business we have the capability to provide a quality and comprehensive private client conveyancing service.   

Main responsibilities
  • To effectively support the Solicitors in the management of telephone communications and production of all communications and legal material in a timely manner
  • Typing of documents and correspondence (from a mix of audio-typing and direct instructions)
  • Dealing with internal administration tasks of Estate Agency service to include:
    • creation of materials including all ESPC insertions
    • uploading to our property web site
    • associated ESPC and online administrative tasks
    • handling Estate Agency calls and emails including direct communication with clients
  • Be capable in all aspects of role type to include filing, administration, and fronting telephone calls
  • Support the development and adherence to agreed styles and precedents for the output of their work to ensure consistency of service quality
  • Maintain interest in the sector and Shoosmiths’ development attending any training as required/relevant to the job role
Skills and qualifications
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the Scottish residential property and associated regulatory obligations
  • Excellent and accurate keyboard skills required.
  • Good working knowledge of various applications — word, outlook, digital dictation (PowerPoint and excel helpful but not a necessity)
  • Taking care of, and paying attention to, all correspondence and documentation
  • Excellent presentation skills reflected in their work
  • Good organisational skills to ensure that the tasks are effectively scheduled within working time available, and that urgent work is completed and returned within the specified timescales
  • Friendly, helpful with a positive can-do approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise, be organised and efficient
