The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our pensions team, which is ranked in the top tier for pensions in the South East (Legal 500) offers a specialist practice combining high quality advice and support whilst offering good value to clients. We encounter many pension schemes with similar problems and concerns, but recognise that each scheme is unique. We pride ourselves on providing tailored and practical advice.
Our advice combines sound legal analysis with an understanding of the factual background. Whether advising the trustees or the scheme sponsor, we strive to provide workable solutions for our clients.
Our clients cite cost effectiveness, efficiency, and response times as reasons for choosing us over many London firms, while our team includes those with City/Multinational experience in its ranks.

We advise in relation to more than 250 occupational pension schemes, ranging from £1m to more than £1.4 billion in size.

The role

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our growing team of UK pensions experts in our Birmingham office.

The team offers breadth and quality of work as well as scope for conducting business development and driving the team forward. Proposing innovative suggestions to grow the team will be welcomed and rewarded.

We are keen to hear from candidates with a connection to Birmingham who are either based here or looking to relocate. We want to talk to you if you have an interest in practising in this area either arising from previous experience or because you recognise that pensions is generally getting an increased focus as the UK’s longevity improves.

You’ll join a collaborative and well established national team where group and individual development are valued.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
