The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our national Employment team is widely respected for providing an excellent service, providing pragmatic and timely legal advice to its highly regarded client base. The team primarily works with employer clients along with some individual advisory work and a mix of both contentious and non-contentious matters. We also have specialists in advocacy, corporate work and business immigration.

The role

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our top tier (Chambers and Legal 500) team of UK employment law specialists in the Reading office at NQ+ level. The team offers scope for progression at the junior end, working closely with a Solicitor, Associate and the Partners in Reading. Experience of advising both individual and employer clients and of providing employment support on corporate and commercial transactions and advising on TUPE would be advantageous. In addition, the ability to handle your own Employment Tribunal caseload with supervision and advising on collective consultation would be beneficial.

This role will suit an enthusiastic employment lawyer who has relevant post-qualification experience or a seat on a training contract with significant time spent as a paralegal beforehand. We are offering you the chance to handle a general, varied caseload, with significant client contact – you will not be limited to either contentious or non-contentious work. You will also be able to get involved in our extensive programme of client training and employment seminars and participate in business development in order to develop your skill set.

You will join a busy, collaborative and well established team where group growth and individual progression are key.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
