The role

Shoosmiths are looking for candidates from all walks of life to begin their legal career in the Commercial Debt Recoveries world. Whether you are fresh out of school / college and looking for your first role, considering a career change or have always wanted to work in law, but didn’t know where to start, then this could be the role for you:

We are looking for candidates who will be trained to run and oversee a caseload of debt recovery matters, from sending an initial letter, through to issuing Claims and beyond. All training will be provided.

Skills and qualifications

Desirable skills:

  • IT literate with experience of using Word, Excel and the internet;
  • Good written, numeracy and oral communication skills;
  • A fast learner and a hard worker;
  • Good telephone manner;
  • Experience in customer service environment, or any relevant equivalent experience would be desirable;
  • Willingness to learn new skills;
  • Confident and professional.

Due to the nature of the work undertaken, confirmation of employment will be subject to a variety of checks which will be carried out once an offer of employment is accepted.  These checks will include employment references covering the last 5 years, proof of ID, proof of address covering the last 5 years, Personnel Vetting credit search (which will only highlight insolvency or County Court Judgments - should any adverse data show on the Personnel Vetting search then any offer of employment made will be withdrawn).Terrorism Check (against data supplied by the Bank of England) and a DBS check previously known as a Criminal Records check.
