The team

Our team of skilled national insolvency and restructuring lawyers has a broad range of experience across the full spectrum of insolvency and restructuring, with particular emphasis on supporting insolvency practitioners, banks and asset based lenders. We provide advice to company directors and businesses operating with financial difficulties, providing bespoke and innovative solutions. We recognise that in insolvency scenarios our clients will need urgent practical advice, which is why we pride ourselves on our fast response times, offering constructive, commercial and clear advice in a straightforward manner, to provide clients with solutions tailored to their objectives.

As well as specialising in non-contentious insolvency issues, we can also deal with insolvency litigation, acting for insolvency practitioners and creditors in recovering funds through the use of corporate and insolvency legislation.

Our excellent national team have recently been shortlisted for the National Corporate Restructuring team of the year award at the Turnaround Restructuring and Insolvency Awards. Our Department Head, James Keates who is recognised in the Legal 500’s Hall of Fame and is featured in The Lawyer's top 100 Lawyers for 2020, has become well known as a leading “go to” lawyer for advice on CVAs, particularly in the retail sector, having advised a number of well-known retailers on CVAs over the last 18 months. Sarah Teal leads our Manchester team and works on a variety of complex cases such as advising upon administrations, receiverships, voluntary arrangements and liquidations. She also acts for banks and other financial institutions in relation to appointment considerations, security enhancement and enforcement of their rights.

Due to growth we are now looking for an experienced Senior Associate to join the team in either Birmingham or Manchester, with a focus on the contentious cases that we have.  Acting for household name clients, this role will involve driving and leading on large scale litigation cases,  working closely with the Partners in the team.

The ideal candidate will be confident running large scale insolvency litigation cases, and supporting banks, insolvency practitioners, private equity holders and asset based lenders on a variety of matters arising from distressed lending, corporate recovery and insolvency.

We are looking for direct applications, no agencies. Please get in touch with Dawn Gillard directly at dawn.gillard@shoosmiths.co.uk if you would like to confidentially discuss this opportunity.
