The team

Shoosmiths Private Client Conveyancing Team offers a highly professional conveyancing service designed to make the process of buying or selling property as efficient and stress-free for their clients.

Shoosmiths remains the largest firm of conveyancing solicitors accredited under the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme. The conveyancing service provided by our Private Client Practice maintains the same high standards corporate clients have come to expect of Shoosmiths and is consistently commended in national consumer service awards.

The role

As part of an exciting period of growth, we are now looking to recruit a Business Administration Apprentice to join our New Business Team within the Conveyancing department. The New Business Team act as the first point of contact for new customers wishing to engage Shoosmiths services after buying or selling their property, therefore you will have a background in customer service and excellent organisational skills to ensure that these customers receive the best service possible.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start their career in a fast-paced, growing department. Alongside the Business Administration Apprentice (NVQ Level 2), you will also undertake a structure in-house training programme where you will gain knowledge of the full conveyancing process from end-to-end.

We consider this a level 1 competency role.

Main responsibilities

You will play a pivotal role in incepting and opening new files for the conveyancing department and provide for the case teams any administration necessary to assist in the smooth progression of transactions. This will include uploading new files onto the case management systemallocating unreferenced post to the correct teams, ensure filing is kept tidy and accurate, and delivering new files promptly.

As a first point of contact for new customers, you will be given the responsibility to establish and build on the initial relationship and through acquiring knowledge of the conveyancing processes, be able to answer any queries in the early stages. You will be dealing with a range of customers from first-time buyers through to experienced sellers, therefore you will need to be able to answer the telephone in a professional manner and refer on customers to the relevant team where necessary.

In return, you will be given the opportunity to go through a structured training programme, attending training sessions arranged by the Conveyancing Trainer, completing online courses and shadowing more experienced members of the team.

  • Confident telephone skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
  • Good customer service experience.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team as well as under your own initiative.

Qualifications required:

  • You must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including English and Maths (grade 4 and above).
