The team

Our national Commercial Practice Group continues to advance at pace. The group is comprised of Commercial contracts, Data & Privacy, TMT, IP, Financial Services and Projects & Infrastructure teams and we are proud to have a number of leading individuals within our ranks.  We are in the top tier of Legal 500 for most of our practice areas, although our intention is to have top rankings across the board.

We are collaborative and genuinely work along national lines. This means you work with the support of a national infrastructure around you but have scope to show enterprise and innovate in your own practice and your local office.

In Thames Valley you will join a small but growing commercial team, thriving under the leadership of Nick Holland and Fiona Teague. We have around 160 people in this office across our practice groups and we enjoy a great reputation here – Tier 1 ranked in corporate and commercial (Legal 500).

The role

We have a vacancy at the 4yr+ PQE level and we want to talk to commercial Associates or Senior Associates who are based in Reading or have connections here and want to work with us to support and develop our team in this location.

In you join us, you’ll see we are plugged in to our national network and there are opportunities on offer to work across all our specialisms. On a day to day basis, you’ll be working with Nick and Fiona and the team on business critical commercial work for an impressive array of clients, the likes of Experian plc, Pizza Hut Restaurants, British American Tobacco and Associated British Foods. The general work stream spans franchising, supply and servicing agreements, outsourcing, distribution agreements  as well as corporate support. You’ll also have the opportunity to focus on Data & Privacy mandates dealing with Binding Corporate Rules, data breach support work, Article 28 (of GDPR) agreements and the privacy aspects of general commercial agreements. Much of our work has a cross-border or international element.

We are looking for enthusiastic, team orientated individuals with general commercial experience gained either from private practice or in-house. Given the nature of the work being handled by the team, it will be beneficial if you have experience in privacy or technology work but this isn’t essential.   

You will share our values for providing outstanding client service and partnering with our clients to advance their businesses in terms of efficiency, technology, productivity. In most cases you will be taking your instructions from In-house Lawyers and you will benefit from operating at this level across the legal and commercial aspects of the business. The majority of our commercial team in Thames Valley have spent time in-house. If this is something you’re interested in, there are likely to be opportunities for you to spend time on secondment.

You will work with us to supervise and progress the junior legal advisors in the team. You’ll be handling work of the best quality in a positive, supportive environment and vitally, you will receive recognition for your input and have the ability to influence your career and the success of the team as a result.

You will be a valued presence in the office in terms of bringing on the team and seeking out  commercial opportunities for  from your colleagues in other teams including corporate, employment and real estate.
