The team

Our Recruitment Team are dedicated to finding the best talent for a variety of business areas including both legal and head office support roles.

The role

Shoosmiths are looking for a Recruitment Officer to join our award-winning recruitment team for a 6 month FTC to find the very best talent for legal and head office roles across the firm. This is an exciting time to be joining a growing organisation that now employs over 1,700 people across 13 locations in the UK and has been named 'Best Employer' for 14 Consecutive Years (Legal week).

No two days will be the same and you will work across a breadth of functions including Legal, IT, Finance, Facilities Management, Compliance and HR. You will have the opportunity to partner and work with stakeholders across these areas, learning about the different functions at Shoosmiths to help you engage with prospective candidates.

We consider this to be a level 2 competency role.

Main responsibilities
  • To provide a quality recruitment support service to hiring managers, supporting the delivery of an effective, efficient and innovative recruitment service.
  • Creation of local recruiting plans, job descriptions and advertisements and conduct regular update meetings with hiring managers.
  • To determine appropriate direct sourcing methods for open vacancies including advertising, utilising talent pools and head-hunting.
  • Review applications and conduct all 1st stage interviews for open vacancies in line with agreed SLA's.
  • Building networks to develop talent pools of passive candidates in advance of needs, and maintain regular contact with possible candidates, particularly including the use of social media.
  • To promote internal employee referral networks and internal mobility.
  • Support the development of Shoosmiths employer brand and position in the local market as an 'employer of choice'.
  • Attend appropriate careers fairs and develop relationships with key colleges and schools to support the early careers strategy.
  • Research and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate sourcing.
  • Producing a variety of reports to assess job board effectiveness, agency performance, time-to-hire, etc.
  • Continuously evaluating and updating the selection methods utilized across the firm.
  • Maintaining and building the relationships with recruitment agencies which will also encompass PSL review and agency meetings.
  • Managing and promoting the 12 month Law Sandwich Placement Year scheme across multiple offices
  • Acting as a key point of contact for apprenticeships and school leaver programmes.
Skills and qualifications

We are looking to speak to candidates with previous experience of managing direct recruitment from end to end and direct sourcing a high volume of vacancies with skills including:

  • Experience of working in a recruitment team (either in-house or within an agency environment).
  • Previous candidate sourcing and interview experience.
  • Proven experience to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; organisational and time management skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and interest in social media platforms e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.
  • Expectation of complete confidentiality on all business matters.
  • The ability to work as part of a team, but also able to be self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
  • Previous legal sector experience and an existing network in the legal / recruitment sector would be advantageous.

This role may on occasion require flexible working hours, and travel throughout the UK.
