The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our team of skilled national insolvency and restructuring lawyers has a broad range of experience across the full spectrum of insolvency and restructuring, with particular emphasis on supporting insolvency practitioners, banks and asset based lenders. We provide advice to company directors and businesses operating with financial difficulties, providing bespoke and innovative solutions. We recognise that in insolvency scenarios our clients will need urgent practical advice, which is why we pride ourselves on our fast response times, offering constructive, commercial and clear advice in a straightforward manner, to provide clients with solutions tailored to their objectives.

As well as specialising in non-contentious insolvency issues, we can also deal with insolvency litigation, acting for insolvency practitioners and creditors in recovering funds through the use of corporate and insolvency legislation.

Our excellent national team have recently been shortlisted for the National Corporate Restructuring team of the year award at the Turnaround Restructuring and Insolvency Awards. Our Department Head, James Keates who is recognised in the Legal 500’s Hall of Fame, has become well known as a leading “go to” lawyer for advice on CVAs, particularly in the retail sector, having advised a number of well-known retailers on CVAs over the last 18 months.

Lee Sennett leads our London team and regularly acts for lenders, creditors, insolvency practitioners, corporates and directors. Lee advises on all types of restructuring situations, accelerated M&A and formal corporate insolvency procedures (administration, liquidation and receivership) including sales and acquisitions connected to such procedures. He also advises on lender security, enhancement and enforcement.

The role

Due to growth we are now looking for an experienced Solicitor or Associate to join the team in London. This is a great time to join the team as we have strong growth plans for the division as well as our London office in general, having just secured new premises for us to move in to in 2020.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a dedicated restructuring and insolvency team and have a mixture of non-contentious and contentious experience albeit with a focus on the former. As well as experience in the formal insolvency processes, ideally the candidate would have knowledge of directors duties, pre-insolvency procedures/steps and refinancings.

Acting for household name clients, this role will give you the opportunity to run with smaller matters on your own as well as work closely alongside Partners in the team (cross-office) on larger scale cases. You will be actively encouraged to attend business development and marketing events.

We are looking for direct applications, so if you would like to have an initial confidential conversation please get in touch with Dawn Gillard at dawn.gillard@shoosmiths.co.uk.
