A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our team of national insolvency and restructuring lawyers has a broad range of experience across the full spectrum of insolvency and restructuring, with particular emphasis on supporting insolvency practitioners, banks and asset based lenders. We provide advice to company directors and businesses operating with financial difficulties, providing bespoke and innovative solutions. Our National team head, James Keates (who is recognised in the Legal 500’s Hall of Fame), and local team leader, Sarah Teal, have become well known as leading “go to” lawyers for advice on CVAs, particularly in the retail sector, having advised a number of well-known retailers such as Monsoon and Accessorize, Select Fashion and Office Outlet on CVAs over the last 18 months and recently supporting Sports Direct on its challenge to the Debenhams’ CVA.

The role

Due to our commitment to ongoing growth and increased client demand, our busy Manchester team is on the lookout for an additional senior or principal associate with at least 6 years’ pqe.  This role will be reporting to Sarah Teal who represents banks, asset based lenders and other financiers, restructuring and turnaround professionals, directors and management teams and advises on all issues arising in financially stressed situations.

The team provides a full-service offering to clients and the work on offer is complex, often high-profile and varied with a mix of non-contentious and contentious matters.

As a valued and integral member of a local and national team you will manage matters independently as well as collaborate with the wider team on larger scale instructions. Already from an existing restructuring and insolvency team, you will be confident in dealing with the full range of restructuring and advisory processes – in particular, detailed knowledge will be required of directors’ duties in the context of financial difficulty, pre-insolvency procedures, restructuring and formal insolvency procedures.

You will join a supportive, ambitious and award winning team that offers genuine development prospects.
