The team

Shoosmiths Private Client Conveyancing Team offers a highly professional conveyancing service designed to make the process of buying or selling property as efficient and stress-free for their clients as possible.

We remain the largest firm of conveyancing solicitors accredited under the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme. The conveyancing service provided by our Private Client Practice maintains the same high standards corporate clients have come to expect of Shoosmiths and is consistently commended in national consumer service awards.

This is an exciting time to join our Milton Keynes office. Last year we moved in to a flagship building which offers market leading facilities and a fantastic working environment in keeping with our forward thinking, collaborative, agile set-up, The Residential  Property team here is Partner led by Karen Stewart and has a mandate to grow and to develop the practice further, particularly through the local region.

The role

We are looking for a confident, self starter Conveyancing Manager to join the small Partner-led team in Milton Keynes which provides premium service to private individuals across England. This is a key role in this collaborative team

In this role you will be working on a varied portfolio of high-quality conveyancing matters which may have been referred through our wealth protection or other private client departments, the Firm’s commercial client network and clients returning to the team.. The nature of transactions is frequently high net worth transactions. Whilst this is a busy role, your focus is on providing high and close attention to each client to deliver exceptional customer service. You will manage your own caseload and develop your skill set to work on more complex transactions with appropriate supervision.

You will have management responsibility for a paralegal in the team and will be called upon to delegate work and offer training and development to the person in that post.

Our Conveyancing Manager will ideally live in Milton Keynes or the surrounding area or have links to the area. We are looking for a candidate with connections in the area and prior experience of, or a flair for business development. With the strength of our team behind you, you will need to feel comfortable networking in the region to develop relationships with estate agents and further expand our client base.

 

Main responsibilities
  • Competently, confidently and consistently undertake all key functions and adhere to the Performance Standards expected of the Conveyancing Manager.

  • Manage a caseload of conveyancing transactions with minimal supervision, intervention and assistance.

  • Manage and monitor any work referrals (internal and external) to develop relationships.

  • Excellent communication skills – within the team and with clients.

  • Adherence to deadlines and good time management.

  • Take responsibility for the management of a paralegal in the team.

  • Manage existing and new client relationships of the team.

  • Visit clients as required. As appropriate, attend regional/area meetings to establish strong working relationships with key contacts. Be flexible in your approach where possible, if it meets the client requirements..

  • Ensure you and your direct report are working towards meeting the departments key performance indicators. Manage and initiate new ideas to improve performance and encourage buy in and support.

Skills and qualifications

In order to fulfil the requirements of this role,

  • You must have worked as a Conveyancer, most likely in excess of 2 years.
  • Qualification preferred but relevant experience is equally valuable.
  • You must have a strong general knowledge of all aspects of conveyancing transactions.
  • You must have demonstrable experience of managing your own caseload.
  • Be IT literate and to follow the Firm’s policy in this request at all times.
  • Able to provide supervision and mentoring to other staff when required to do so.
  • Ideally, you should have experience of managing client relationships and work winning.
