The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Shoosmiths delivers national solutions supplemented with local knowledge, allowing us to bring the best of both worlds to our clients’ transactions. With 13 locations across the UK, our knowledge of our cities and regions, as well as the connections we have in the local markets and sectors, means we can support our clients in a more intimate way, which factors in the nuances of those markets.

Our construction law team has advised on some of the UK’s most significant construction projects over the years, including infrastructure projects, commercial/residential schemes, town centre redevelopments, urban regeneration schemes, portfolio acquisition/disposal projects and process plants.. The team acts for developers, occupiers, funders, construction professionals, contractors and specialists on managing and resolving risks in building and engineering projects.

The role

Due to ongoing growth and increased client instructions we are seeking to appoint additional associates to join our Birmingham team.

The role is primarily contentious and will therefore involve adjudication, mediation, litigation and risk management. However, there may also be an opportunity for some non-contentious drafting work.

Commercial and real estate litigators who have a genuine interest in developing into construction dispute specialists will also be considered. Some of our construction partners and team members have previously worked in-house for major industry players, and so candidates with backgrounds in private practice or industry are equally of interest.

This is a great opportunity within a highly respected team where work will be of the highest quality and with plenty of scope to take early responsibility.

Why should you apply?

We provide a great platform for individuals who want to develop and build upon their experience and skills with a clear and transparent progression plan. You will have every opportunity to unlock your potential through the wide variety and high-quality training that we offer. You will benefit from working alongside experts in their fields and supporting them on high quality and an impressive list of clients that you can add to your work portfolio.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
