The firm

A leading law firm with a network of offices throughout the UK, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy and zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our award winning national corporate team, which has been ranked in the top four firms for deal volume in the UK for the past four years by Experian MarketIQ's M&A Review, is led by a team of partners widely regarded as leaders in their field, who are regularly recommended by clients for their reputation, personalities and outstanding expertise.

We advise companies, management teams, investors and debt providers through the business life cycle, from start-up and first round finance through M&A, management transactions, venture and development funding, restructuring, capital reductions, private equity funding and exits.

Our Belfast office opened in 2016 and in 2020 we welcomed Mark Davis as a partner in our Corporate team there. The team advise on the full range of corporate work, with a particular focus on M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions. Our corporate practice is a clear area of growth for the firm and as part of this we are looking to strengthen our presence in Belfast to further compliment and develop our national network.

The role

We have an excellent opportunity for an ambitious senior associate to join our growing Belfast office and be instrumental in its continued growth and development. You will work closely with the local and national corporate team on their transactions, as well as offer support to our real estate partners in Belfast.

We would expect you to provide support to the partners on some of their larger transactions as well as be confident taking the lead on a range of corporate finance work, including M&A, joint ventures and reorganisations and investment and shareholder documentation. You will also have the drive and ambition to assist in the development of our Belfast-based corporate team and be committed to supporting our growth with an active involvement in a variety of business development initiatives.

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
