The team

The main aim of our Learning and Development Team is to provide Shoosmiths' employees with the skills and knowledge to ensure that Shoosmiths continues on its journey to become a UK law firm most valued by its clients, people and communities.

Our L&D Team is based at the Lakes in Northampton although members of the team frequently travel to other offices to provide hands on support and ensure a quality training programme is maintained.

The role

To work in a supportive manner, providing therapeutic support for the senior leadership team within Shoosmiths, developing awareness on issues related to mental health and cognitive behavioural therapy, evaluation and assessment of how working life at Shoosmiths might be improved.

Main responsibilities
  • Able to work effectively with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, understanding and respecting the impact of difference and diversity within a law firm.
  • Undertake initial assessments of the mental health needs of internal clients who self-identify as welcoming support
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive CBT assessment involving interview, observation, data collection and the use of relevant clinical measures
  • Able to formulate a model of therapeutic change using theory, principles and research derived from the cognitive, cognitive – behavioural and / or behavioural approaches to therapeutic change
  • With the active participation of the client, implement a therapeutic programme utilising a range of CBT methods to support clients to acquire skills to alleviate distress and enhance personal effectiveness
  • Monitor treatments effects, reinforcing client progress and adapting treatment accordingly as suggested by feedback, and collaborative problem solving
  • Evaluate client progress within collaborative relationship, preparing them for discharge from active treatment into a planned follow up process that audits clinical effectiveness through client outcome measures
  • Work within all relevant Shoosmiths procedural guidelines and operational policies

Applicant qualification requirements:

We are looking to appoint someone who can demonstrate a qualification gained from an accredited CBT training course (minimum of post graduate level), or completion of significant experience; meeting knowledge skills and attitude (as defined at BABCP.com) at a level required for BABCP accreditation.

Relevant professional qualification in a health subject or counselling e.g. Dip SW, RMN OT, PGMHW

Experience: 1+ years’ post qualifying experience
