The team

Whether we are helping an individual plan their career, working on salary reviews or planning car parking,  our objective is to satisfy the needs of our clients – the people who work for Shoosmiths. As with all the support departments, HR and Estates Management play a pivotal role in the effective operation of the firm. Many within the team undertake responsibility for both areas and the team is headed up by a single director.

The role

As part of the continuing development of communication within the firm, we are looking for a Senior Internal Communications Executive on a permanent basis. This is a great opportunity to design and deliver an internal communications programme at a growing and ambitious leading UK law firm.

About the role

Working closely with the Head of Internal Communications, the senior internal communications executive will provide internal communications planning, advice and delivery to engage, inspire and inform a firm of over 1700 partners and staff across 13 locations in the UK.

Main responsibilities

As the IC Senior Executive, you will:

  • Work with the Head of Internal Communications to develop the internal communications strategy
  • Plan, edit and write compelling content using appropriate media and channels to support delivery of the firm's strategy
  • Identify new and creative ways for the firm to communicate internally, to enable its wide range of busy professionals working across the UK to confidently deliver to clients
  • Support with internal content for important initiatives and projects
  • Provide advice on communication best practice
  • Help to drive employee engagement through creative campaigns, tactical use of channels and thoughtful/conscientious drafting and editing
  • Build relationships, drive and source content from teams across the firm, emphasising key messages aligned to the strategy
  • Help influence wider teams and stakeholders on best practice communication approaches and tactics

Skills and qualifications

This is a a great opportunity for someone with previous internal communications experience, preferably in a professional services or corporate environment.

You will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to draft and edit a range of copy, translating complex information into plain English
  • An excellent command of English, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience of developing and managing communication
  • Experience working with intranets and other digital internal platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment and the confidence and expertise to establish credibility with internal stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills, with the ability to keep track of multiple projects and deadlines
  • Knowledge and experience of current and future communication tools and techniques
  • A consistently positive attitude and 'can do' approach
  • A proven ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information
  • The ability to understand and identify with the firm and its objectives and values
  • A creative mind-set matched with an ability to deliver new initiatives
  • An action-orientated and self-motivated approach
