The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 50 law firm to achieve “Platinum Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our award winning national corporate group, which is consistently ranked as one of the UK’s top law firms for deal volume by Experian MarketIQ's M&A Review, is led by a team of partners widely regarded as leaders in their field who are regularly recommended by clients for their reputation, personalities and outstanding expertise.

We advise companies, management teams, investors and debt providers through the business life cycle, from start-up and first round finance through to M&A, management transactions, venture and development funding, restructuring, capital reductions, private equity funding and exits. We also have a growing corporate finance practice, primarily advising listed clients on equity capital raisings on the public market.

Our dynamic Nottingham based team acts for a variety of local, national and international clients, assisting and advising them on all aspects of the business life cycle. Lead by Crispin Bridges Webb, the team has a particular specialism in corporate finance with an emphasis on public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as divestments, equity capital markets and private equity transactions. Clients range from young fast growth companies to large multinational corporations, wherever based.

The role

Due to on-going growth and with Corporate at the heart of the firm’s strategic focus, we are looking for an additional Senior Associate or Principal Associate. This is an opportunity to take ownership of transactions working alongside Chambers and Legal 500 rated individuals across the country, as well as supporting the team on larger, at times more complex matters. The core focus of the work will be M&A (both with a domestic and cross-border element), private equity and venture capital transactions.

We pride ourselves in providing the best client experience, you will therefore have the opportunity, and be encouraged to take part in a variety of client and BD activities from the outset as well as mentoring other members of the team. This role is an excellent platform to assume responsibility and be part of an ambitious and expanding team which wants to continue its growth trajectory.

As a people centric firm, we invest heavily in developing our people by providing an innovative, flexible and supportive environment.  We were one of the first teams to be truly agile in our working arrangements, and are genuinely supportive of trusting and putting our people first in the way they want to structure their working day, in an engaging and sociable environment, with mentoring, coaching and a bank of learning opportunities available.  We welcome enthusiastic, engaging and entrepreneurial team players looking for that next step to further their career.

Equal opportunities

Our approach to our people is underpinned by our approach to diversity, inclusion and well being. Our ambition is to build a diverse and ambitious workforce that reflects all backgrounds and talents, and a workplace that is supportive and inclusive, recognises and nurtures talent, and has a strong sense of community between colleagues.

This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
