The role

Reporting to the Senior Network Engineer the job holder is required to plan, design, optimise, implement, audit and, troubleshoot the network security system to improve the efficiency of the firm.

The job role needs to maintain the firm’s security protecting it from vulnerabilities and attacks that present a risk to the firms’ operation.   They need to ensure a resilient architecture is provided with the provision to withstand any threat.

The role is multi-disciplined in a UK based multi-branched firm, expertise is required in Information Technology, networking and information security.   Experience working with cloud providers is also required.

Job holder will be required to travel to Shoosmiths offices as and when required

Main responsibilities

Principal Responsibilities

  • To maintain the firm’s security and network posture/performance by proactive monitoring our network and security infrastructure
  • To identify, diagnose, and resolve information security/ network issues.
  • Based on assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security/ network enhancement.
  • Ensure proper protocols and processes are followed by creating and maintain comprehensive documentation related to network and security infrastructure.
  • You will be expected to work on both projects and support
  • Maintain strong relationships with integrators and vendors to maintain support levels, upgrades, installations, and planning alongside exploration of new features and innovative solutions.

Secondary Responsibilities

Maintain a watching brief on industry developments and technologies and identify, propose and recommend where requirements are noted.

Act as an out of hours 24x7 escalation contact.

Skills and qualifications

Proven 5-7 years professional experience as a network security or information security engineer, including experience of troubleshooting and supporting data network and server architecture.

  • Enterprise Threat Prevention and EDR technologies- experience configuring and managing enterprise next generation endpoint protection and threat hunting
  • Enterprise Vulnerability assessment tools- experience in performing regular proactive scans and reacting to those findings
  • Enterprise Mail Security technologies- experience configuring and managing enterprise email security policies for URL protection, DMARC, DKIM, SPF, Sandboxing, DLP, SPAM, Business Continuity etc
  • Enterprise PKI Environment- experience in maintaining both internal and external pki environments
  • Enterprise LAN/ WAN and Voice experience- experience configuring and managing enterprise switches, routers, load balancers and wireless devices
  • Enterprise Voice Technologies- Unified telephony including sip, voip conferencing and softphones, instant messaging and presence, contact centre and call recording
  • Sound understanding of backbone infrastructure encompassing LAN and WAN technologies, dynamic routing protocols, VPCs, trunking, Blade chassis networking, active directory, group policies, domains and DNS
  • Enterprise cloud technology experience- specifically around securing Azure SAAS, PAAS and IAAS solutions
  • Communication skills – it’s crucial that the candidate has the ability to communicate network/ security issues to peers and management clearly and effectively
  • Adaptability – To work as a member of several teams, which requires flexibility and adaptability. Candidates interested in this role should be comfortable working in a matrixed IT environment
  • Problem-solving skills – it’s the network security engineer’s job to solve problems. Security/ Network incidents can happen at any time and it’s expected that these engineers will research, escalate, and resolve issues effectively

Network engineer certifications such as CCNP Security and CISSP.
