The firm

Shoosmiths is a leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our pensions team, which is ranked in the top tier for pensions in the South East (Legal 500, 2011/2012) offers a specialist practice combining high quality advice and support with competitive fees. We encounter many pension schemes with similar problems and concerns, but recognise that each scheme is unique. We pride ourselves on providing tailored and practical advice.

Our advice combines sound legal analysis with an understanding of the factual background. Whether advising the trustees or the scheme sponsor, we strive to provide workable solutions for our clients.

Our clients cite cost effectiveness, efficiency, and response times as reasons for choosing us over many London firms, while our partners all have experience in City pensions practices.
We advise in relation to more than 200 occupational pension schemes, ranging from £1m to more than £1billion in size.

The role

Our highly rated pensions team has grown strongly in the last few years. We are again looking to recruit and strengthen the team further with an additional solicitor, ideally to join our Thames Valley or Solent offices though we are open to considering other locations (excluding London, Edinburgh and Basingstoke).

Shoosmiths has recently won “UK Law Firm of the Year” at the British Legal Awards. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious pensions solicitor to join us and our market-recognised pensions practice at a very exciting time in its growth and development.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute towards our continuing growth by building strong relationships with clients and pensions professionals. Our work also often involves working alongside other practice groups such as banking, insolvency and real estate, and so the ability to maintain strong internal and external relationships is vital.

Skills and qualifications

We are eager to hear from pensions solicitors with strong academics who are experienced in advising trustees and sponsoring employers of defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid schemes, and public sector arrangements, both on day-to-day issues and projects.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
