The firm

Shoosmiths - UK Law Firm of the Year Winner at the Legal Week British Legal Awards 2015.

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Shortlisted for Regulatory team of the year at The Lawyer Awards 2015, ranked in band 1 for health and safety by Chambers with all partners recognised individually, the team also has strong rankings in Corporate Crime, Product Liability and Environment and these look set to increase in the next 12 months with planned expansion and new recruits. Part of the firm’s culture is to nurture and promote talent which includes providing solicitors with the responsibility, client contact and the autonomy to carve their own development and career path. This 4 partner team is based across several locations but works nationally as one, with support as required across the offices and practice groups.

The role

Due to organic growth in both work and clients as well as lateral hires, our highly regarded regulatory practice is seeking one or more talented regulatory lawyers. The ideal candidate will have a solid track record in supporting larger matters and leading smaller matters with a caseload of compliance and regulatory defence work. With plenty of client engagement from the off, the successful candidate will also be happy to roll up their sleeves for business development, marketing and mentoring junior members of the team.

Skills and qualifications

Expertise in some of the following areas is essential:

  • Criminal Defence (corporate)
  • Safety, Health & Environment
  • Trading Law (Product Liability, Trading Standards, Marketing & Advertising including regulated areas such as tobacco and transport)
  • Internal Investigations / Fraud / AML / ABC / Export Control & Sanctions
  • Corporate Due Diligence

Technical ability and attention to detail are minimum expectations. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate an ability to place compliance in a usable commercial context for clients and be able to apply their mind to new areas of regulatory law.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
