Our Recoveries Services Group provides a complete range of debt recovery services utilising cutting edge technology and with specialists dealing with different debt types, all operating under a centralised management structure allowing us to deliver consistently excellent service. Our structure ensures we can provide a full range of volume recoveries and litigation options, whilst ensuring that we have the expertise and experience to deal with complex and technical issues arising from volume recoveries.
Our Unsecured Litigation Team act for a number of banks, building societies, other consumer finance lenders and debt purchasers, dealing with unsecured lending products including loans, credit cards, overdrafts and guarantees, together with advising on unenforceability and PPI mis-selling claims. We also have the expertise and experience to deal with disputed and complex claims, with our defended teams sitting alongside our recoveries teams and able to provide immediate advice, often preventing the escalation of a matter to a full blown defence. Our team is based at the Lakes and consists of a pre-issue and negotiation team, 3 undefended litigation teams and a team dealing with defended and non standard matters. These teams are supported by a customer care team (managing receipt of 1000s of payments per month), an administration team and an audit/training function providing our first line of defence for compliance/regulatory purposes. |

The Unsecured Lending Litigation Team are seeking an experience Team Leader to oversee a team of Case Handlers, ensuring that the team are appropriately led, managed, encouraged and developed so that their targets and SLA’s are met.
In addition, the Team Leader will a have some basic client responsibilities at an operational level, therefore this is a pivotal role in ensuring that client relationships are maintained and developed.

As a Team Leader, you will work with the Recoveries Manager to review, update and adapt our processes and strategies to continue to ensure that Shoosmiths’ remains the leading Debt Recovery Team in the UK. The role will encompass working with clients (i.e. financial institutions) to ensure services are delivered to agreed service levels and expectations.
You will be responsible for providing day to day advice and support to your team, as well as assessing and undertaking your team’s compliance, training and supervision needs. This will include 1-2-1’s, encouraging them to meet targets / performance goals, reviewing recruitment requirements and ensuring the team’s structure and environment are operating at maximum efficiency.
Furthermore, you will work with wider teams within the departments such as IS and Finance to help enhance the performance of the department as a whole. Shoosmiths’ are undergoing a significant period of investment in its IT Infrastructure currently which mean you will have the opportunity to utilise new technologies to help improve your team’s performance. |
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within recoveries services/debt recovery which may have included some leadership/coordination duties (although this is not essential). You will have the ability to manage change, new practices and be able to cope under pressure but with the ability to recognise when to seek assistance. You will also have an analytical mind-set to identify improvements in existing process along with the confidence to challenge these and influence senior management.
Essential experience
- Previous debt recovery experience.
- Financial services or consumer finance sector experience is preferred.
- Able to work well under pressure and to meet targets and deadlines.
- Team lead or management experience
- Excellent communicator with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Good IT skills/experience and able to leverage technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent client care skills.
Desirable experience
- Experience of working within a CCA regulated environment.
