The firm

Shoosmiths - UK Law Firm of the Year Winner at the Legal Week British Legal Awards 2015.

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our National Commercial Group is going from strength to strength and we have exciting plans for accelerated growth over the next five years.

Our bold and ambitious plan is to be recognised as the pre-eminent Commercial Practice in the UK within the next 5 years.

We’re already well on that journey, currently having an excellent team of over 70 lawyers focused on six key service lines:

  • Technology, Media & Telecoms
  • Intellectual Property
  • Financial Services
  • Commercial Contracts
  • Privacy & Data
  • Capital Projects & Infrastructure

We are ranked in the top tier of Legal 500 for most of our practice areas, although our intention is to have top rankings across the board.

The role

With a loyal and ever increasing client base comprising FTSE Plcs, global household names and innovative start-ups, we are keen to speak with accomplished Commercial Contracts lawyers who are looking for an alternative role which will be central in helping us to achieve our ambitions.

This is not a traditional professional support lawyer role.  The role will be far broader and more strategic in scope with key aspects of the role including:

  • managing our Group’s external PR communications strategy with the legal press and legal directories
  • co-ordinating and assimilating information on our Group’s newsworthy work highlights and sharing these externally through thought leadership articles and know-how
  • supporting the lawyer group with BD and marketing initiatives
  • providing strategic know-how updates and training, internally and externally for clients
  • taking ownership of maintaining our market leading precedent bank
Skills and qualifications

To be up to the challenge, you will be from a reputable Private Practice or In-house legal function with a proven track record of taking the lead on complex commercial contracts matters.

You will have excellent technical skills as well as being used to engaging with clients at a high level. As one of our key ambassadors, you will have first class communication and presentation skills and will enjoy working closely with people, quickly building rapport and confidence.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
