The Government Enforcement and White Collar Crime Group at Skadden is an internationally recognized leader in the representation of corporations, boards of directors, management and other individuals in connection with government investigations, enforcement actions, internal investigations, and white collar criminal prosecutions.

Our practice is broad based and includes the defence of corporations, directors, officers and employees against allegations in various business contexts and at every stage of the enforcement process. For example, we commonly act before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, state attorneys general and district attorneys, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Congress, and international regulators such as the Serious Fraud

Skadden is ranked as having one of the pre-eminent government enforcement and white collar crime practices in the world. For example, we were named among Law360’s White Collar Groups of the Year for 2018. We were also named as having one of the top practices worldwide in Global Investigations Review’s 2018 GIR 30, a ranking of leading firms handling internal and government-led investigations. We also are ranked as a top firm for corporate investigations in Chambers Global 2019.

Our practice group comprises lawyers in key financial centres around the world, including, for our European practice, in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels and Moscow.

Person Specification

Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years experience,  although those with less or more experience who can demonstrate relevant experience will be considered on their merits.  The successful individual will be US trained and qualified, have experience with cross-border investigations, and will, over time,  be required to manage matters from start to finish and assist with the development of junior members of the team.  Excellent written communication and drafting skills are absolutely essential, as well as the ability to demonstrate initiative. Early responsibility is assured within a fast-paced and challenging environment. The group is collegiate, friendly and closely knit. A first–class academic record is essential, and language skills are a plus.

Remuneration

We pay generous rates and provide our lawyers with a highly competitive benefits package.  As of 2021, the package includes:

  • Discretionary year-end bonus
  • Technology allowance
  • 22 days holiday and 3 personal days
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity and parental leave
  • Private medical insurance
  • Permanent health insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Gym allowance
Training and Development

Skadden has a sophisticated training programme that includes both in-house and external seminars and training sessions.  We also pride ourselves on providing our lawyers with "on-the-job" training and constructive "real-time" partner feedback.  The formal training programme includes:

  • Regular know-how meetings.
  • Weekly and monthly training seminars and workshops for all levels covering legal topics relevant to the firm’s practice areas and skills.  These are presented by partners and associates and external specialists, QC’s and other professionals.
  • Regular banking group meetings for Skadden's offices in Europe and Asia.
  • Monthly banking group meetings for all Skadden offices (by video).
  • Targeted banking group training sessions (such as an annual, inter-active seminar on financial covenants from an external presenter)
  • Live video-links to seminars presented across Skadden’s network of offices.

Pro Bono

Skadden strongly encourages its lawyers to assist, through pro bono work, those individuals

and groups unable to afford legal services. A number of pro-bono opportunities are also

available to our lawyers through our pro-bono programme.  We are affiliated to LawWorks, a

registered charity which supplies pro-bono projects to the firm.
