The Department is recognised as a leading private client team in the South East / London. Two of the Partners are recognised as leaders in their field. The Department’s clients include high net worth individuals and families, trustees and entrepreneurs based both in the UK and overseas.

A significant and growing proportion of the department’s workload and turnover derives from Probate and Estate Administration work, from simple through to highly complex estates.  The preparation, updating and finalising of Estate Accounts, and dealing with associated tax compliance and clearances, is an important strand in the efficient delivery of this work, and there is an opportunity for a dedicated Probate & Estate Administration Accountant to join our busy and friendly team.

The work will include assisting with the following:

  • Drawing up, regularly updating, and finalising Estate Accounts
  • Dealing with deceased’s lifetime tax affairs
  • Annual Tax Returns for estate administration period
  • Complying with Estate Registration Service requirements where necessary
  • Obtaining relevant tax clearances
  • Preparation of Forms R185 for beneficiaries
  • Liaising with third parties including HMRC
  • Liaising with lawyers in the team
Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant is likely to have at least two, and ideally three or more, years’ experience in either a legal or accountancy practice in the above areas of work.  A good understanding of estate administration will be important.  They  will have initiative, and will have the personal skills to liaise effectively with both third parties and other members of the team.

In principle the role is full time, but this depends upon the candidate; it may suit an experienced accounts professional on a part-time basis.

The successful applicant will be fully supported in their role by members of the Department who have experience and expertise in each of the above areas. All members of the Department are encouraged to become STEP members and support will be given to the applicant to qualify as a member of STEP (if not already a member).
