The department

We are looking for an experienced Corporate or Finance senior lawyer to join our Corporate and Finance team in Guernsey where you can expect a varied working day, providing legal advice relating to corporate and commercial law, investment funds, general financial services, insurance and reinsurance. Our hand-picked legal team has earned a reputation for offering technical expertise coupled with commercial awareness and an understanding of our clients' desire for prompt response times and a solution-orientated service.

Given the nature of the practice we need a generalist with solid technical skills, a client centric and commercial approach and the ability to think on their feet.

Purpose of the job

To take principal charge of work assignments within the practice, with minimal partner intervention.  This will entail extensive direct client contact, being responsible for the supervision of juniors and taking an active role in the identification and implementation of new business initiatives.

To work with the Partners to grow the business by assisting with the development and implementation of the strategic plans for the particular practice area.

Main responsibilities

  • To take responsibility for the management and co-ordination of client work as delegated by the Partners.
  • To ensure all clients receive a top quality, timely and professional service to meet their needs.
  • To effectively delegate to and actively supervise others, where appropriate.
  • To manage risk exposure in accordance with the firm's policies and procedures.
  • To actively share knowledge, skills and experience with others.
  • Promote and strengthen the Bedell Cristin brand.
  • Within the team/firm strategy, contribute proactively to the development and implementation of business development plans aimed at attracting more work from existing clients and developing new client relationships.
  • Identify and support new ventures, cross selling opportunities and ways to develop our services.
  • Take responsibility for a range of non-chargeable activities to build the firm's know-how and external reputation through regular seminars/writing of articles/presentations etc.
  • To take personal responsibility for achieving financial targets; to record time in a consistent way and to proactively manage WIP, billings and debtors.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of our key financial indicators by educating others.
  • To identify, discuss and implement changes/improvements to the way the practice runs and/or the services provided to clients.
  • To play a key role in the motivation, engagement, management and training/development of the team.
  • To be a positive influence across the business and inspire positivity in others.
  • To actively share knowledge, skills and experience with others.

Qualifications

  • Likely to be 6 years+ PQE with Jersey, Guernsey and/or UK/Commonwealth qualifications.
