The department

We are recognised as one of the leading regional firms in advising private clients on a broad range of issues relating to estates and private property, tax planning and family matters, our team has experienced a period of continued growth and investment. 

The Tax and Trusts Team are part of the full service Private Client Advisory Department.  They compliment the wider Private Cleint Advisory team,specialising in general administration and taxation of trusts for individuals, families and charities. We offer a bespoke service in administering trusts, tailored to the specific needs of individual trustees and beneficiaries.

The work includes, in general:

  • Creation, administration and termination of trusts
  • Advice to trustees and beneficiaries in respect of practical administration, cash flow and other practicalities, as well as tax planning and compliance considerations.
  • Trust taxation generally.
  • Preparation of accounts and trust tax returns 
  • Tax Planning advice to individuals and Trustees.

 

Accountabilities

The core duties include:

  • Completion of trust Accounts (using Isokon software)
  • Completion of trust tax returns (PTP software)
  • Completion of personal tax returns
  • Completion R185 Certificates for both trusts and estates
  • Completion forms IHT 100
  • Winding up trusts, registering new trusts
  • Completion of tax to date of death for deceased persons (involves liaison with Probate Team).
  • Administration period tax for estates of deceased persons.
  • Dealing with day to day matters of trust administration, such as, making payments and distributions from trusts, ensuring trust monies are invested, where necessary, liaising with trustees and with HM Revenue and Customs.

Tax planning in relation to income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax, advising personal, trust and estate tax clients 

The candidate

Our ideal candidate will be someone who has experience dealing with all aspects of trust administration, including:

  • Experience of preparation of trust and personal tax returns and inheritance tax accounts for trusts
  • Preparation of trust accounts
  • Experience in a client facing role
  • Experience in liaising with HMRC and third parties such as banks, land agents and stockbrokers
  • have an understanding of the IHT aspects of trusts and tax planning
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in personal tax (including tax compliance) and trust administration
  •  A basic understanding of accounts practices
  • Working knowledge of Inheritance Tax 
  • STEP or ATT, or ATII or similar qualification is desirable
