The department

We have one of the best regarded and largest dedicated property teams within the country, numbering over 100 specialists.  Our property lawyers are particularly experienced in dealing with development and investment, planning, secured lending and landlord and tenant matters.

The team deals with a wide range of high quality commercial real estate work, much of which is complex, high value and high profile. Led by four Partners and supported by a diverse group of lawyers the team deals with six predominant practice areas, namely, real estate finance, strategic land, residential development, commercial development, investment disposals and acquisitions and corporate support. Birketts offers a strong IT infrastructure, to allow our lawyers the very best in agile working.

The team represents a number of high profile clients in sectors such as:

  • Housebuilding.
  • Retail.
  • Roadside retail and leisure.
  • Public sector, including Local Authority, health and education.
  • Service office sector.
  • Charities
  • Ports
  • Logistics, storage and distribution.
Accountabilities

Day to day responsibiltlies / work type would include: 

  • Conditional and unconditional acquisitions and disposals.
  • Social housing
  • Portfolio acquisitions, disposals and management.
  • Option, Promotion, Collaboration and Joint Venture Agreements.
  • Secured lending.
  • Real estate support on corporate transactions.
  • Commercial development work, including pre-let schemes and forward funding.
  • High value landlord and tenant transactions, nationwide and including London.
  • Serviced office transactions.
  • Charity real estate.
  • Public sector real estate advice, transactions and management.

The team is supported by a dedicated Professional Support Lawyer and by the specialist teams throughout the firm such as planning, construction, property litigation and environmental.

The candidate

An Associate or Senior Associate with  2 + years' PQE experience gained within a well regarded city, regional or national firm with a well developed knowledge in all areas of commercial property law. 

he successful applicant would be expected to play an active role in marketing and practice development as well as providing a high level of service to existing clients.
