The department

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Chartered Legal Executive looking to further their career in Property law to join our prestigious Property Department based in London.

The purpose of this role is primarily to deal with a broad range of commercial transactional work including sales, purchases, lettings and asset management (licences to assign, underlet and alter) for both private clients and for urban estate clients. 

The job holder will encounter a wide variety of leasing and property management matters.  Responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating documents as well as running your own files.

Summary of role

The team acts for a number of established and high profile urban estate clients and high net worth individuals.  The team aims to provide a highly organised, efficient and cost effective service to our existing clients and to build on this reputation to further grow the practice.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a key part in achieving this aim.

The primary role will be to assist the team with the commercial property work.  Particular responsibilities will include:

  • Management work for urban estate landlords holding mixed use portfolios comprising of retail, office residential and other properties.  Often complex title structures will be involved;
  • Commercial leasing work for which thorough knowledge of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 will be required;
  • Sales and purchases including title investigation and searches ,drafting and negotiating sale contracts ,transfers and related transaction documents and title reports for the client;
  • Collating regular updates and reports for clients;
  • Managing own file administration;
  • Preparation of SDLT forms and registrations;
  • Generally assisting on due diligence for large-scale investment projects;
  • The role may also involve assisting with marketing materials and pitch documentation.
Skills and experience

The role will be pressurised from time to time and candidates will need to be grounded and able to use their own initiative and be quick-thinking and flexible in their approach to their work. We are looking for someone who will be able to deal with clients, their advisers and others, in a professional and courteous manner.  This will include meeting such individuals face-to-face on occasions.

  • At least two years general predominantly commercial property experience, including dealing with sales, purchases and landlord & tenant matters.
  • Any commercial experience is an advantage, however an ability to learn and to be willing to do this work is required;
  • A good team player with a willingness to pick up work and support colleagues during busy periods; 
  • Ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to understand and deal with complex title structures or a keen willingness to learn;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both team members and clients; 
  • Self-starter with plenty of drive and initiative;
  • Works in a highly organised manner;
  • Ability to utilise the appropriate IT systems.
