The Team

The Marketing Team at Farrer & Co is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s marketing strategy, including profile and reputation, marketing communications, and business development.  This also extends to all aspects of marketing planning, brand management, communications, events, CRM, business and market analysis.

Scope

This is a broad role. You will assist in supporting and implementing the firm's client development approach. This includes working with the marketing & business development team, partners & fee earners to communicate effective messages to target audiences.

Working with a number of key internal clients (a mix of sectors, departments and international initiatives) you will provide advice on the most effective marketing communications (across all media) to ensure that all marketing messages are achieving objectives. Ensuring that marketing messages are reaching target audiences is a key responsibility and you will also need to demonstrate that appropriate return on investment is achieved. You will also provide input on marketing strategy. You will have responsibility for key projects and several of the firm's most prestigious annual events.

Responsibilities

Project management of marketing communication initiatives, including;

  • Events: Developing event strategy and performance review to include detailed analysis and return on investment (ROI) reports and making recommendation for improvements. Introducing a review process to ensure events do not become tired and perfunctory – especially annual events.
  • Events: Managing several annual flagship firm wide events and coordination / best practice of others. To include input into event planning process (such as ensuring effective venues and suggesting alternatives), drafting wording for letters/invitations/programmes, advising on targets and list preparation (and overseeing Group PA/Secretary who will be responsible for actual mail merge and collation of responses directly onto InterAction), producing appropriate marketing collateral, advising on follow up opportunities and providing appropriate success measures and event de-briefs.
  • Events: Responsible for the Marketing Team event and hospitality calendar. Ensuring that the team can plan for peaks of activity, spot opportunity to leverage overlaps across the firm. Ensure there is minimal duplication of effort or spend.
  • Conferences: identifying relevant conferences, speaking slots, sponsorship opportunities and other networking opportunities for lawyers in line with business objectives
  • Marketing materials; as appropriate, advising on and managing the production and usage of marketing materials (both hard copy and electronic). This will include support for tenders and credentials documents
  • Website: being proactive to ensure content is relevant, kept up to date and is visible to the target audiences. This includes lawyer biographies and credentials. Monitoring competitor sites to ensure we keep pace with market developments. Contributing to strategy with ideas and suggestions for improvements.
  • PR: identifying and managing relationships with target journalists where relevant, in particular, the key contacts at Directories and important Associations.
  • Thought leadership: spotting opportunities to demonstrate market leadership eg senior strategic discussions, surveys, new angles on existing issues etc.
  • Internal marketing: ensuring that news is communicated effectively internally on the intranet and at relevant meetings. Flagging opportunities to others in the firm where relevant,
  • Directories: Project managing the firm's legal directory submissions. This includes collation of submissions in line with target dates ensuring quality is high, targeting teams for rating improvements and developing an effective internal campaign around the process and results. Leverage submission content for wider BD and marcomms usage; for example to improve the deals database. Managing external consultants as appropriate.
  • Awards: Provide timely advice on appropriate content and awards to enter. Support with editing of final submissions.
  • Ensuring credentials and lawyers biographies are maintained and updated.
  • Monitoring spend and ensuring that all marketing costs are allocated correctly.
Person Specification
  • Possesses an analytical approach.

Education and Qualifications
  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent)
  • CIM (or other equivalent) Marketing qualification is desirable
  • Strong user of Microsoft Office essential and experience of using e-marketing systems, CRM systems and social media desirable

The normal hours of work are 9.30am – 5.30pm but it is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to client demand.
