The Team

The Marketing Team at Farrer & Co is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s marketing strategy, including profile and reputation, marketing communications, and business development.  This also extends to all aspects of marketing planning, brand management, communications, events, CRM, business and market analysis, and business development, including pitches and tenders.

Scope

Responsible for the creation, execution and evaluation of all communication to support the firm’s marketing, BD and brand objectives.

Responsibilities

The Focus is on ensuring that all activities support marketing and BD objectives for practices, sector groups and the firm overall and includes PR, marketing materials, digital & social media, directory & award submissions, internal communications and branding.

To include

  • Deputising for the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager as required

  • Working with Business Development to align marketing communication activity with business priorities

  • Leading a press office function to act as first port of call for media enquiries

  • Monitoring the brand and commentary across relevant channels (online, print and broadcast media)

  • Providing best practice and templates for all marketing materials

  • Advising on marketing communications activity for specific business units (eg groups, international, firm wide) and ensuring this is appropriate and supports overall brand positioning

  • Management of key marketing suppliers such as design and PR agencies and directories consultant

  • Supervision of a team consisting of Marketing and Communications Executives, Marketing Assistant and Marketing Administrator

Skills and Experience
  • Degree educated with a good academic record. Marketing degree preferable but not essential subject to experience

  • A proven track record in marcomms management, strategic planning and developing and implementing marcomms plans is a given, as is people management

  • Experience working across all levels of business. Legal sector experience essential

  • Experience of managing the media including press office responsibilities and engaging with key legal journalists and associated press

  • Proactive, creative individual with excellent organisation and project management skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills including oral/written communications, influencing, diplomacy, flexibility and tenacity

  • Ability to write compelling business cases

  • Previous experience of working withinprofessional services is desirable

  • Knowledge of main marketing systems such as InterAction, RSVP, Google Analytics, Vuture etc

  • Excellent analytical skills and comfortable writing reports

  • Developing and analysing marketing and business development data to drive insight and focus for the firm’s growth plans

Person Specification

You will need to be strategic in your approach, but not afraid to really get stuck in to tactical initiatives as well. You will be a trusted adviser to the senior marketing team and work closely with Partners and Fee Earners.

You will already be operating at manager level, be an excellent team player but happy to work autonomously as required.

You will have the experience and gravitas to build very strong external relationships with the legal, trade and broader business press.

You will understand that the need for carefully managed digital communications, in addition to all other communications strategies has never been more apparent. Marketing across all media has become a core role in building and strengthening key client relationships. You will have proven responses to this.
