The Team

The team is responsible for the development and overall control of all matters relating to the firm's financial policies, financial affairs and administration.

Scope

To assist in the identification and repatriation of old residual Client a/c balances in line with the firm's policies and the SRA Accounts Rule 14.3 and assisting in identifying Client a/c balances that can be paid to charity in line with the firm's policies and SRA Accounts Rule 20.2

Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the residual Client a/c balance project
  • Investigating and clearing residual Client a/c balances with Partner approval
  • Investigating residual Client a/c balances that can be paid away to charity in line with SRA Rule 20.2
  • Writing up detailed notes on each balance that is to be donated to charity in line with SRA Rule 20.2 for review by the Legal Cashier and Financial Accountant
  • Responsibility for updating the Legal Cashier & Financial Accountant on a fortnightly basis on the progress being made and collating the replies to the firm's bi-monthly residual balance memo which is sent to all Matter Partners who hold a balance on Client a/c that is over 1 year old.
  • Liaising with the Revenue Control team in relation to all residual Client a/c balances
  • Liaising with the Cashiering team to make sure approved instructions for payments and transfers are completed in a timely manner
  • Researching Client's details on Companies House and completing online searches to try to track down clients as well as using social media searches and other forms of searches available to trace individual clients.
  • Completing return post mail drops to the last known addresses of Clients and collating the responses.
  • Ensure all filing is kept up to date
  • Assisting the Treasury Supervisor and Finance Operations Team Leader with any ad hoc duties as and when appropriate
Skills and Experience
  • Working knowledge of Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules in particular SRA Rule 14 & 20.2
  • Previous experience of working as a Legal Cashier on Client a/c preferable
  • PC literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office, e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Aderant experience preferred but not essential

  • Able to interact positively at all levels across a large firm and a good team player
  • Able to demonstrate excellent customer facing skills
  • Happy to deal with people at all levels including the possibility of meeting clients face to face to deal with their balances
  • Experience of working in a law firm or a professional services environment would be an advantage
Education and Qualifications

Minimum grade C at GCSE level for Maths and English.

The hours of work for this opportunity are 9:30am to 5:30pm but it is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to client demand.
