Scope

To plan, implement, customise and maintain best of breed IT software systems across the firm. The individual is also responsible for integrating third party systems into existing commercial off-the-shelf software.

Responsibilities
  • Technical lead on projects, working alongside the IT Project Manager or assigned management resource.

  • Be actively involved in the selection of new systems and lead the implementation of the solution.

  • Be involved in the planning and analysis stages of new systems, liaising with stakeholders and potential suppliers. On smaller projects this may mean sole IT responsibility in this area.

  • Keep up to date with available software, technology and trends and make recommendations regarding upgrades or new systems which could benefit the firm.

  • Ensure that applications meet business requirements and goals, fulfil end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.

  • Provide high level support for current systems to the IT team and other members of the firm.

  • Plan and execute upgrades and maintenance for in place systems.

  • Adapt and modify existing systems to meet the changing needs of the firm or to integrate them with an incoming system.

  • Take an active interest in our systems and ensure we are getting the best value from the products we own.

  • Commercial awareness, understanding licencing models and ensuring cost control is maintained.

  • Provide a 3rd line support function, assisting the IT team with escalated support issues. Working with IT staff, external support personnel, and any other Farrer & Co staff and fully utilising documentation and online resources to resolve any problems.

  • Help devise and implement deployment strategies for server and desktop applications, including any scripting or automated install.

  • Documentation of systems and processes.

  • Take a lead role in business continuity planning and testing.

     

Skills and Experience
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly

  • Excellent rapport with end users. Able to build relationships

  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

  • Ability to create clear and concise technical documentation

  • Appreciation of a 450+ user environment and IT functions

  • Managing or sourcing software solutions

  • Managing project based and ad-hoc support driven work

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office 365 – As well as managing an Office 365 click to run implementation, experience implementing and supporting Teams and/or SharePoint online would be advantageous

  • Microsoft Azure & O365 administrative portal experience relating to configuration, management and support of services

  • Development and support of Word templates and macros

  • Ability to write code in the following: .NET, C#, VBScript, VBA, ASP/ASP.NET, T-SQL, PowerShell

  • Experience of managing and supporting applications in a Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS environment.

  • Experience in managing the following systems:

  • Systems Centre Configuration Manager including application packaging and deployment

  • Document Management system, ideally NetDocuments

  • Security Barriers tool – ideally IntApp Walls

  • Workflow – Ideally IntApp Flow and Integrate

  • Practice Management System – Aderant 8

  • InterAction CRM

  • Digital Dictation – ideally BigHand
