The Team

Farrer & Co's Corporate team has market-leading expertise in complex, high-value transactional and advisory work. We are recognised as being pre-eminent in the private capital sector. Our clients include global high net worth individuals and their businesses, investors, established entrepreneurs, international family offices and trust companies as well as management teams and individual executives.

We have particular focus on the private wealth and financial services sectors as well as publishing, education, media and professional practices. With strong links to the global wealth management community, a significant volume of our corporate work includes an offshore element and we deal regularly with assets in the Middle East and the US as well as the major offshore jurisdictions, such as the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jersey and Guernsey.

Scope

The Associate will report to a Partner and work within the Corporate Team and will work with other associates and partners from across the Corporate Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the future development of the team and will have the opportunity for a significant amount of client contact and to either lead on some transactions or work closely with the lead partners, where appropriate. There will also be work from across the Corporate Team that covers private company M&A, board advice, partnerships and restructuring work.

Responsibilities

The role will have a varied and interesting mix comprising day to day advisory work alongside transactional projects including managing and negotiating key documents (investment agreements and the underlying articles of association), liaising with the client and their other advisers on guiding them through the transaction process and working alongside the firm's high profile employment and tax teams on structuring the investments and acquisitions.

Skills and Experience
  • High level of technical knowledge relating to the practice areas.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Sound technical knowledge relating to the practice area.
  • Excellent organisational skills with and strong interest and enthusiasm in respect of transactional work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starting approach to tasks and projects and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to think laterally and apply knowledge and experience to a broad range of transactions and clients.
  • Efficient communication skills and the ability to pitch the advice to the person receiving it.
  • The ability to deal with many matters at any one time.
Person Specification
  • An ability to deal calmly and with authority commensurate with experience and to work to tight deadlines is essential.

  • An enthusiasm for teamwork, dealing with people, and an ability to assume responsibility and deal efficiently with a varied and often demanding workload will also be a key requirement.

  • The candidate will be expected quickly to become an integral part of an established and highly regarded team.

 

Education and Qualifications

Minimum 2.1 degree and a training contract undertaken in a mid-sized or city firm.

The hours of work for this opportunity are 09:30am-5:30pm but it is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to client demand.
