The Team

The legal directories recognise Farrer & Co as one of the UK's leading firms for rural property work, acting for some of the UK’s premier institutional landowners and private estates. We provide all the legal services needed by the modern rural landowner. From wind and solar options to urban extensions, and from complex agricultural tenancy surrenders to major estate sales and purchases, we have the expertise to make things happen.

We are home to one of the largest rural property teams in the country, which allows us to deliver large projects within tight timetables. Clients value our practical and commercial advice, safe in the knowledge that our focus is on achieving positive results for them.

Scope

The candidate will work with associates and partners from across the Rural practice area focusing on rural estates, involving agriculture, commercial and residential work.

Responsibilities
  • Sale and purchase of agricultural property and rural residential property.
  • Agricultural, commercial and residential landlord and tenant.
  • Sporting rights, right of way, easements and all other aspects of real property.
  • More complex transaction including mineral leases, solar farm leases, renewable energy opportunities  and development agreements.
  • Acting for banks in obtaining security.
Skills and Experience
  • High level of technical knowledge relating to the practice area.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Sound technical knowledge relating to the practice area.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a strong interest and enthusiasm in respect of rural estates and other property matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starting approach to tasks and projects and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to think laterally and apply knowledge and experience to a broad range of matters and clients.
  • Efficient communication skills and the ability to pitch the advice to the person receiving it.
  • The ability to deal with many matters at any one time.
  • Excellent financial discipline in terms of time capture and billing.
Person Specification
  • It is essential the successful candidate will have the ability to deal calmly and with authority commensurate with experience and to work to tight deadlines.
  • It is important they will have an enthusiasm for team work, dealing with people, and an ability to assume responsibility and deal efficiently with a varied and often demanding workload.
  • The candidate will be expected quickly to become an integral part of an established and highly regarded team.
Education and Qualifications

The candidate will hold a minimum 2.1 degree and relevant experience from a mid-sized firm.

Special aspects

Our office hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm but it is essential that the applicant is committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond normal office hours when necessary and in response to the demands of the business.
