The Team

Fieldfisher's Privacy, Security and Information team is one of the largest and most specialised European privacy and data protection teams, with a truly global outlook. We are a specialist, market-leading team with international coverage (including offices in Europe, China and the USA (Silicon Valley) and a unique expertise gained over years of advising on business-critical global privacy and data protection projects and technology work.

We advise clients across the whole spectrum of data privacy and data security law: from large, multinational blue-chip clients through to disruptive start-ups designing for compliance on a limited budget.

Our clients come from all possible industries and sectors: from digital media, technology and cloud businesses through to retail, financial services, professional services and healthcare. Through our Silicon Valley footprint, we also have a particularly strong relationship with leading brand US-led technology companies operating in Europe. 

We help companies with the regulatory aspects of doing business online (e-commerce, apps, cookies, direct marketing, etc.), cyber and data security preparedness and incident response as well as with the drafting and negotiation of complex IT and outsourcing agreements.

Our highly specialist practice includes advising on information governance matters (including GDPR-readiness, global policy design, and international data export solutions), e-privacy (including profiling, targeted advertising, and e-marketing), regulatory outreach, security incident management, and commercial contract drafting and negotiation. Whatever the business, and whatever the data protection need, our team has the skills, resources and experience to rise to the challenge.

Responsibilities

Over recent years, our Privacy, Security and Information team has experienced and continues to experience rapid growth. We are looking for several experienced lawyers across all levels up to Senior associate and Director to join our team in London. Candidates must have proven experience of international data privacy and/or security matters.

You will be working on a whole range of privacy, data protection and data security matters, including compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, international data transfers, data security breaches, direct marketing and ePrivacy as well as a whole range of global privacy and data protection matters, including, Privacy Shield certifications, BCRs and Standard Contractual Clauses and tech and e-marketing issues.

You will be working closely with colleagues in our European and Silicon Valley offices.

Whilst there is a preference for full-time candidates, part-time candidates will also be considered and we will consider talented non UK qualified lawyers with relevant experience.

Key Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • A qualified lawyer with proven experience in international Privacy Law and data protection matters.
  • Excellent academic history.
  • Technically very competent but also able to apply the law in a commercial and pragmatic way to achieve our clients' objectives.
  • An ability to work independently and manage large projects with minimal partner supervision.
  • Experience and a keen interest in marketing and business development.
  • A confident and professional manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to summarise complex legal issues in plain language;
  • Dual-qualification and additional language fluency is desirable but not essential
