The Team

Due to increased demand on the Finance team after a period of significant growth for the firm, and with a number of key financial projects to start shortly, there is an immediate requirement for a strong cashier to join the team to provide client and office cashiering support to the respective supervisors.

The role will sit within the Accounts department and will primarily work on the client account, working closely with the Client Account Supervisor and other team members to deliver an effective client accounting function for the firm. The role will also work closely with the Office Accounts team to provide additional ad-hoc office cashiering support as and when required.

  • Checking, banking and posting all Client/currency and Deposit receipts
  • Checking and processing all Client/Client deposit payment requisitions
  • Checking and processing all inter-ledgers transfers i.e. Client to Bill, Client to Disbursement, Client to Deposit, Client to Client. This can also include setting up of Money Market Deposits
  • Investigating unidentified cheques received and trying to resolve promptly
  • Checking for potential Money Laundering issues and reporting to the MLRO as appropriate
  • Assisting with opening & closing of bank accounts including joint and escrow/deposits and any other queries
  • Reconciliation of Client and Client Trustee Accounts and assisting with Client/Deposit Account reconciliations
  • Assisting with all internal requests and complex queries
  • Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules and notify any breaches to the firm's COFA
  • Other ad-hoc duties as required including assistance with legal aid reconciliation month and Year-end audits
  • Ad hoc assistance with general office account cashiering processes, including assistance with receipt allocations, banking, office bank reconciliations, office payments, supplier statement reconciliations and supplier or internal enquiries
  • Calculating manual interest calculations and providing cash statements
  • Processing legal aid statements and distributing funds across the personal injury department
Key Skills & Experience
  • Can primarily demonstrate a strong experience in client account cashiering and in particular has recent experience of a similar client cashiering role in a legal firm.
  • Demonstration of previous experience in office account cashiering would be advantageous.
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of control environments and can identify control weaknesses. In particular, needs to be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge and application of current Solicitors Accounts Rules and AML procedures.
  • Can demonstrate strong IT systems knowledge (Elite/Lexis is preferable) and a good use of excel capabilities.
  • Can develop strong internal working relationships with the finance team, fee-earners and secretaries as well as strong external relationships with bank contacts.
  • Can demonstrate a good ability to pick-up and understand the requirements of the role quickly.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and in a professional and personable manner. This is a key role in a key area for the firm and so must be professional and presentable at all times.
  • Needs to have strong numeracy, communication and interaction skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong ability and work ethic to meet deadlines under pressure
