The Team

Fieldisher's Asset Management, Funds and Financial Services regulation unit is well known for being at the forefront of innovative products and services design in the financial services arena. We have market leading practices in financial services regulation and investment funds.

The unit has an impressive client base that includes many  household-name asset managers;  various alternative investment fund managers and boutique authorised firms; insurers and pension funds; custodian and depositary banks; financial mutuals; and payment service providers.  We enjoy working with new start-ups, including fintechs. 

We focus on continually operating at the cutting edge of the development of new products and services across a wide range of traditionally distinct disciplines – as the scope of regulated investment business activities has been extended in the UK (and globally).  The four partner team includes lawyers who are highly ranked in all the leading UK and international legal directories, for various areas including financial services regulation (non contentious);  funds; financial taxation, pensions and  insurance.

The group advises on a broad range of financial services products often helping clients innovate new products of forms of business, as well as pure regulatory advice and support to transactions across the firm.  To give an idea of its coverage, we advise on MiFID; AIFMD; UCITS; FSMA regulatory perimeter issues as well as a wide range of regulatory issues covering such areas as investment management agreements, custody and depositary agreements; fund design and documentation; the Senior Managers Regime; remuneration regimes, payment services and consumer credit.

The group sits within the wider Financial Market and Products Business Unit which comprises an ambitious team which is growing quickly.  The role could also provide additional regulatory support to the wider financial services regulatory support practice within the business unit, and more widely within the firm

Responsibilities

We are looking for a bright, talented lawyer with relevant experience to work in our highly-regarded team. This is a challenging role that would suit an ambitious individual.

  • Proactively manage own matters
  • Support the partners and senior lawyers on larger transactions
  • High levels of direct client contact – candidates would be expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Contribute towards business development by preparing briefing papers, attending and presenting at client seminars and developing their own contacts within organisations.
Key Skills & Experience

What we will be looking for is an able lawyers with:

  • An intelligent and inquisitive approach
  • An ability to undertake, and draw incisive conclusions from, an analysis of complicated, challenging and rapidly changing regulatory issues. A keen interest in understanding the spirit as well as the letter of regulation is important
  • an ability to think laterally and identify related issues and problems
  • a sound understanding of, the broad landscape of financial services regulation – Should have experience with some aspects of financial services /asset management law and regulation from a well-reputed City or international firm;
  • Strong academics (essential)
  • Good legal skills including attention to detail in drafting and a genuine interest in the needs of the client;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work as a team and independently;
  • A confident and professional manner

We are open to applications from a variety of levels of experience from newly-qualified to director level.  More important than the PQE is the aptitude and attitude of the candidate.

It is acknowledged that given the wide range of the group most candidates will not initially be expected to be expert in all areas covered.  Training and support will be provided.
