IBB’s Compliance team is part of the Operations section of the Business Support Group (BSG) which includes IT, HR, Facilities and the Document Management Centre. The wider BSG group includes the Finance and Marketing and Business Development teams. The BSG group is headed up by the managing partner.

IBB has been an ISO accredited quality organisation since 1995 which means that there is a well-established risk & compliance infrastructure in place. This is a new post, ideal for a Solicitor or experienced individual who is looking to take ownership of a key support function.

At a strategic level the role provides support for the IBB partners in attaining their objectives. The firm takes a “partner led” client service approach to client care and bases the IBB offering on the value proposition that work will be done at the right level. The person appointed to this role will assist the Head of Risk and Compliance in making sure the firm sets and maintains consistently high standards of client care in line with both Lexcel and the ISO quality standards.

The principal purpose of this role is to assist the Head of Risk and Compliance and the managing partner with the implementation and management of know-how within IBB and also to manage IBB’s central know-how function on a day to day basis.  The role will also provide general risk and compliance support in relation to the firm’s best practice and regulatory requirements and will assist with the development and delivery of a learning and development programme for the firm.

Key Responsibilities

A key element of the role is to deal with a wide range of knowledge management work for all the legal practice teams within the Firm.  This will include:

  • Maintaining the ‘library’ budget in terms of law materials/subscriptions required (including some/limited books).

  • Monitoring existing online subscriptions such as Practical Law, LexisNexis and Lawtel etc. and managing fee-earner access/logins.

  • Monitoring legal developments and regulatory requirements in the areas of law that IBB advise in.

  • Preparing internal updates;

  • Helping co-ordinate the collection and dissemination of materials generated by fee earners;

  • Promoting and developing the knowledge sharing culture within the firm.

Another key element of the role is to provide general risk and compliance support.  This will include:

  • Assisting the Head of Risk and Compliance, and the team, with IBB’s day to day compliance function and the implementation and management of risk within IBB generally.

  • Advising fee-earners and colleagues on varied legal and regulatory queries including the SRA Code of Conduct.

  • Creating, reviewing and updating risk management policies and procedures in accordance with certain quality standards (ISO 9001 / Lexcel etc).

  • Creating, reviewing and updating the Office Manual.

  • Assisting in maintaining the firm’s Terms of Business and precedent forms of engagement letters.

  • Involvement in firm-wide issues, involving professional support and possibly regulatory matters

  • Actively participating and contributing to the expert profile of the BSG team by constantly renewing and developing personal and professional skills.

 

The third element of the role is to assist with the development and delivery of a learning and development programme for the firm. This will include:

  • Setting up and delivering training / briefings;

  • Monitoring external training courses and circulating information to relevant practice groups;

  • Assisting fee-earners with the preparation and delivery of both internal training and training for clients.
Person Specification

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a degree (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Be a qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years PQE, with strong academics, with experience from a central London or top tier regional firm.
  • Preferably have (but not essential) previous experience working within a PSL and/or know-how team.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong technical skills, ideally including litigation matters, which will be demonstrated by your achievements to date.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness.
  • Experience and knowledge of the SRA Handbook and managed quality standards such as ISO and Lexcel would be a distinct advantage.
  • The ability to provide advice at all levels
  • Flexible with the ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality standards, confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and a proven ability to communicate across all levels of an organisation.
  • IT literate and proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and familiarity with other relevant applications.
