High net worth private clients form a significant part of the client base for IBB’s private practice. Services including wills, probate, tax, trusts, estate planning and property advice for individuals. Work is also undertaken for institutional clients. The team is particularly strong in its Court of Protection work with a partner and a senior solicitor appointed as panel deputies. Five solicitors are members of STEP. Other related teams with whom there is a close working relationship are contentious probate, charities, family law including children’s cases, employment and personal injury.

To provide a high quality legal service to clients on all aspects of wills, trusts, tax planning, Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Probate law in line with the firm’s standards of performance. Ensure exemplary client care establishing trust and confidence and demonstrate strong financial management, commercial awareness and professionalism at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Provide a high quality legal service to clients on all aspects of wills, trusts, tax planning, Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Probate law including:

  • Will drafting
  • Probate and administration of estates
  • Lifetime tax planning and trust drafting
  • Advising in relation to Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Court of Protection

Develop own technical knowledge and skills including the ability to:

  • analyse information and reach sound decisions

  • understand and adhere to instructions

  • communicate succinctly both orally and in writing

  • research appropriate case law and technical and legal precedents to progress matters.

Remain up to date professionally and technically by attaining and recording CPD, as well as developing knowledge of the market place and client base.

Meet the firms quality standards including:

  • ensuring personal time recording and billing targets are achieved
  • ensuring that all chargeable work is properly recorded on client matters
  • adhering to the SRA’s client care directive and to the firm’s own policies as set out in the Office Manual
  • maintaining good file management as set out in the Office Manual
  • understanding the obligations relating to client accounts and ensure preparation and delivery of bills in accordance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.

 

Assist the team in its marketing and business development objectives, including activities such as attending client events, writing text/articles for the website and other publications, and assisting the Partners in organising marketing events.

Person Specification

Education

  • Strong Academics including good A’ level grades, and a 2:1 degree

Skills and Experience

  • 2 – 4 years PQE experience of wills, trusts, tax planning, Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Probate law.
  • Experience working as a trainee and/or qualified solicitor with a firm known for its work in this area;
  • Strong analytical skills and able to demonstrate the ability to identify and deal with the core elements of a problem.
  • Able to produce work that is consistently accurate and drafts that are thought through and completed as far as possible.
  • IT literate with intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt style of communication
