The department

You will form part of the Commercial team, which deals with the full range of non-contentious commercial, technology, outsourcing, e-commerce, privacy, data, consumer, IP, marketing and media law.  Your primary focus would be commercial and technology transactional work and ideally also on data privacy and consumer law.

The team is an energetic and sociable group with an extremely impressive and varied client base, predominantly in the retail, technology, marketing and media sectors and also in the automotive and professional services industries.

Responsibilities

The overall objective of this challenging and busy role is to provide both fee-earning and project management support to the team with a view to ensuring that individual tasks are completed cost-effectively and at the appropriate level. There may be client secondment opportunities as well.

The role would suit a junior paralegal with strong analytical capabilities and the confidence to shoulder responsibility for their own matters and deal directly with clients.  The jobholder will provide support to the team in both a fee-earning and marketing capacity. 

Other key elements of the role are:

  • legal research;

  • assisting in the various marketing initiatives within the department including, in particular, researching and assisting lawyers in preparing for conferences and other speaking engagements;

  • providing assistance with international projects and retainers, liaising with clients and helping with billing, narratives and administration;

  • Maintaining soft copy accurate filing, on a day-to-day basis, of scanned documentation and incoming/outgoing emails

  • A proactive approach to ensure that all administration work is completed on a timely basis, using own initiative and resourcefulness

  • Working with departmental administrators to ensure hard copy file archiving is carried out on a regular basis

  • Taking an active part in developing your own role and working to provide increasing support for allocated partner(s) and associates – ensuring suitable training is undertaken

  • Assisting team colleagues with heavy workload when appropriate or as delegated by your manager
