The firm

Lewis Silkin is a UK top-100 commercial law firm with offices in London, Oxford, Cardiff, Dublin and Hong Kong. The firm is recognised by clients and industries alike as being distinct: for its deep understanding, insight and advice to creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses; for its market-leading international practice in employment, immigration and reward; and for delivering pragmatic, commercial advice in a refreshingly human way.

With 59 partners and more than 340 staff, the firm is structured around two key divisions; the Employment, Immigration and Reward (EIR) and the Creators, Makers and Innovators (CMI).

The department

The employment team of Lewis Silkin is one of the leading employment law practices both domestically and internationally. Our team is amongst the largest in the UK with 23 employment / immigration partners and around 100 other specialist lawyers.

The team’s work comprises a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters for a diverse range of clients.  Our lawyers undertake a significant amount of business development, including giving seminars, producing Lewis Silkin branded publications and driving client relationships.  International advice is central to our practice and we are members of the Ius Laboris international alliance of employment lawyers.  Incentives and Immigration work is handled by specialists within the division and this will therefore not form part of the role.

The Paralegal will be focussed on working on matters for a single, new client of the firm. This client is a global and expanding business and Lewis Silkin (in collaboration with our Ius Laboris colleagues) will be responsible for providing employment and immigration support around the world. The paralegal will be involved in obtaining, co-ordinating and tracking international work and will be responsible for financial reporting and billing.

Responsibilities

The paralegal will provide support to the client team in both a fee-earning and a relationship management capacity.  Activities will include:

  • Instructing and liaising with international lawyers and co-ordinating international advice on projects;

  • Managing and updating content on the client extranet;

  • organising billing arrangements between the client, Lewis Silkin and the Ius Laboris firms;

  • Monitoring and reporting legal spend;

  • supporting lawyers working on UK matters by conducting legal research and drafting documents;

  • assisting in various client development initiatives, including researching and assisting lawyers in preparing for client training and review meetings; and

  • assisting with Employment Tribunal litigation, including work on disclosure, bundles, witness statements and preparing for hearings.
