The department

BACKGROUND

The employment team of Lewis Silkin is one of the leading employment law practices both domestically and internationally. Our team is amongst the largest in the UK with 23 employment / immigration partners and around 100 other specialist lawyers.

The team’s work comprises a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters for a diverse range of clients.  Our lawyers undertake a significant amount of business development, including giving seminars, producing Lewis Silkin branded publications and driving client relationships.  International advice is central to our practice and we are members of the Ius Laboris international alliance of employment lawyers. 

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Solicitor  will be based in our newly opened Dublin Office (although travel to London, Cardiff and Oxford will be expected from time to time) and will be reporting to Siobhra Rush, Partner.  The current Dublin EIR team consists of one partner, one managing associate and one office manager. 

Responsibilities

The Solicitor’s workload will be exclusively employment work.  The solicitor will mainly be assisting more senior associates and partners with their cases, as well as running their own matters under supervision. The caseload will consist of a mix of contentious and non-contentious employment work and the solicitor will have direct contact with a variety of clients. 

The role will develop in accordance with the solicitor’s own skills, aptitude and preferences and according to the needs of clients and the division.

TRAINING

The Division’s training programme includes seminars and workshops given by external speakers and by our own internal experts.  The solicitor’s role will include responsibility for maintaining know-how and precedents across the Irish team. 

The successful candidates will be allocated a Career Development Partner (CDP) who will have an overview of their long term career aspirations and progression.  We have an excellent track-record of developing our Associates and generating opportunities for Partnership.  Organic growth and a strong team culture is at the heart of our success.   

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate is likely to have 1-3 years PQE with excellent academics, and gained the benefit of training and development in a well-respected employment team.

The candidate must have a strong analytical ability; a clear communication style (both spoken and written); excellent client handling skills and, above all, must be a team player.
