The department

LS In-house is Lewis Silkin’s flexible resourcing service which provides clients with temporary lawyers and paralegals to cover for absence, busy periods or assist with projects. It was established in 2013 and is one of the first law firms providing an offering of this kind. 

Responsibilities

We are looking for commercial lawyers to join our LS In-house commercial service. Our LS In-house lawyers are engaged either as consultants, or as employees of the firm typically on  fixed-term and zero hours employment contracts.  Note that all placements are expected to fall inside IR35 where the lawyer is engaged as a consultant.  Our in-house lawyers  receive a competitive remuneration package. They usually work exclusively at clients’ premises though post pandemic some clients are considering a hybrid working pattern. Placements are generally full-time but part-time placements, typically 4 days per week do also arise from time to time.  Placements are largely based in Central London but can be based elsewhere including Greater London, the M4 corridor and further afield.

Many of our clients who use our in-house service are well-known household names across a broad spectrum of industry sectors including media, technology, financial services, energy, automotive, international consulting, retail, FMCG and professional services.

For example, we are currently looking for a commercial/advertising lawyer to join a leading social media platform client for a 6-month fixed term role. The role would include digital media buying/selling, ad policy regulatory/advisory work, relevant general commercial contracts (e.g. engaging vendors in this space) work.

Additional information

The role would suit a commercial lawyer with excellent academics, strong interpersonal skills, high level private practice and in-house experience and a broad range of the following experience:

  • Technology, including software licensing, systems integration, website/app development, SaaS and other cloud related work, e-commerce;
  • Data, including exploitation of data, data protection and privacy and understanding implications of GDPR;
  • Commercial agreements, including outsourcing, franchising, supplier agreements, software and technology agreements;
  • Intellectual property advisory and commercial agreements such as sponsorship, publishing, media, advertising; and
  • Regulatory advice including consumer and advertising.

IT skills required:

  • Competency in MS Office suite.

Professional qualifications required:

  • Qualified UK lawyer with a current UK practising certificate or overseas equivalent.
