The department

The IT Department has a relaxed, sociable, working atmosphere whilst providing a high level of support to its users, there are currently 17 staff in IT split between helpdesk, networks, training, development and management and across 2 sites, Cardiff and London.

The systems

NetDocuments document management system with Office 365 applications running on Windows 10 laptops, Thomson Elite/Intapp Time practice management system.  

 Full VOIP installation and unified messaging, Interaction, Mimecast, Big Hand digital dictation and Fresh Service Helpdesk software for logging all calls.  We run an outsourced datacentre in a Virtual/SAN environment.  We use VPN connections on the laptops for mobile working and Citrix for remote access, OWA iOS and Android mobile phones secured through Intune.


The Database Administrator’s role is to direct, evaluate, review, and manage database resources and services across the organization while ensuring high levels of data quality. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Where required, the Database Analyst will design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases.

The DBA can help to expand the firm's use of data as a strategic enabler, the Database Administrator will achieve this by strategically designing, developing, and implementing databases, data warehouses and business intelligence systems which allow us to maximise the value of the firm's data.


  • Develop and administer strategies for the control and sharing of company database resources and services.
  • Ensure the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the organization via ongoing database support and maintenance.
  • Analyze user requirements for reports, forms, queries, and data extraction.
  • Develop and deploy end-user practices and tools for data extraction, queries, and data manipulation in accordance with business processes.
  • Monitor system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Create and document models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones through data flowcharting.
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of relevant network components to ensure database access, consistency, and integrity.
  • Develop long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Advise on the allocation of physical data storage for database systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Manage and support our in-house financial management information system (The Cube)
  • In conjunction with the other business services teams and legal teams, develop data models and protocols for mining production databases.
  • Oversee the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of  ensuring data quality and consistency.
